Chapter 8: Keep Still
Qinghe dressed in a borrowed red robe and walked to the edge of the cliff.
Far below, at the black border-stones of the Abyss, a small white figure stood in the wine-colored dusk.
He had not moved in an hour, Chi Wen said.
He had refused food, refused the guards, and refused to go home.
"Shall I send him away?" Chi Wen asked.
"Do you want to see him?" Jinye asked, beside her, very quietly.
She watched the white figure for a long moment.
"No."
"Are you sure?"
"I'm sure." She turned her back on the cliff. "I want to finish what we started in the pool."
Chi Wen cleared his throat and discovered a pressing errand elsewhere.
Jinye's bedchamber was red from floor to ceiling.
Red silk on the walls, a red lacquer bed with black posts, red lamps in iron hands.
A single high-backed chair of black wood stood by the window.
Qinghe pointed at it.
"Sit."
He sat, in his black robe with the gold collar, and watched her with his hands on his knees.
"Put your hands behind you," she said. "Hold the back of the chair. Don't let go until I say."
He laid his arms behind the chair and gripped the rails.
His chest rose, and his throat worked.
She walked around him slowly and took her time.
She untied his collar one hook at a time, and parted the black silk, and bared his chest and stomach.
He was already hard under the cloth.
She opened his trousers and pulled them down his thighs, and his cock sprang out heavy and flushed against his belly.
