Chapter 16: Marjorie
The corridor was silent.
Nobody asked Marjorie to say more.
She had said it to forty phones, and she knew they were recording.
Walter Fenn rose from the head of the table.
"Marjorie, I would like that on the record in this room as well," he said. "Since you are still a director."
"Walter."
"The forensic review the board ordered last week sent its first findings tonight. I asked for them before the gala."
He lifted the tablet in front of him.
"It was looking for a forged email. It found other things."
Marjorie's hands went to her pearls again.
"This is a family matter."
"It was paid for with company money," said Walter. "So it's a board matter."
He put on his glasses.
"February 9, 2021. From Marjorie Landry's Pinnacle address, to her son."
He read slowly, in the voice he used for wills.
"'Appointment confirmed for the 17th. I will drive. Tell no one, least of all the girl.'"
"'A Hale grandchild will not sit on my husband's board.'"
