Chapter 5: Greed

Fin didn't argue with him.

He just looked at Draven for a second, then turned and walked toward the far wall.

"Second trial," he said. "Follow or stay here. Staying here is a choice."

Nobody stayed.

We came out of the mirror room into a corridor that sloped down.

The walls were black marble like everything else, but the floor was different.

Every few feet it had a seam in it, thin and bright, like light under a door.

I walked near the back. The VP walked in front of me with his shoulders up around his ears.

Nobody talked to me. Nobody talked to Draven either.

The corridor ended at a door with one word carved over it.

GREED.

Fin pushed it open.

Inside was a vault the size of the whole Gamex floor.

Gold stacked in columns. Watches in glass cases. Keys. Deeds. A wall of phones.

In the middle of the room stood a table with one chair.

On the table sat a black card with my name on it.

I picked it up.

It was blank on both sides except for the name. Andrew, in small white letters.

"Each of you gets one," Fin said.

He gestured and cards appeared on the table, one for every person in the room.

People crowded forward and grabbed theirs.

"What does it do," someone said.

"It gives you what you want," Fin said. "Whatever that is. You only have to say it out loud."

The room went still.

A woman from marketing said, "Anything?"

"Anything."

She looked at her card for a second and then said, "A house in the hills."

The floor under her feet lit up and a key dropped into her hand.

She stared at it. Then she started laughing.

Someone else said, "My dad's health."
