Chapter 8: Yichen
Shen Yichen's bedroom was as bare as the rest of the flat, except for the bed, which was enormous.
"Wei Chuan posted," said Tang, standing at the foot of it with his phone out. "He's asking if it's a dare."
"Let him ask," said Shen.
"He's got a source, Teacher Shen," said Tang. "Someone's talking."
"Tomorrow," said Shen.
Shen took the phone out of his hand, switched it off, and set it face down on the dresser.
"This is mine. Take off your jacket."
Tang took off his jacket.
It was still the soft cream one, creased from the car.
It slid off his shoulders, and Shen caught it and hung it carefully over a chair.
"You were good tonight," said Shen.
"You kissed my hand," said Tang. "That wasn't in the plan."
"No," said Shen.
"What was it?" asked Tang.
Shen did not answer.
He undid the buttons of Tang's shirt one at a time, slowly, with his eyes on each as it opened.
When the shirt fell away, he put his mouth to the hollow of Tang's collarbone and stayed there.
It was a quiet touch.
It was the first quiet one.
Tang's hands came up, uncertain, into his hair.
"Yichen," he said, before he could stop himself.
