Chapter 14: Stop

She came into my bedroom that night with my Sunday tie in her hand.

It was grey silk, and I had worn it to Martha's funeral and nowhere else.

"Tie me up," she said.

I was sitting on the edge of the bed with my boots off.

"Where did you get that?"

"Your closet. I've been looking at it for a week." She held it out. "You were angry today, and I liked it, and I want to know what else you've got."

"Iris."

"I'm asking out loud, like you taught me."

She stood there in a cotton nightgown with her braid undone and her chin lifted.

There was something in her face I hadn't seen before, a careful, level look.

I took the tie.

I stood her at the head of the bed and turned her to face the slats of the headboard.

I drew the nightgown up over her head and dropped it.

She was bare beneath it, long and gold in the lamplight, with the marks of my fingers still faint on her hips.

I took her wrists and crossed them and wound the silk around them twice.

I tied it to the slat and tested the knot.

"Too tight?"

"No."

"Tell me if it is."

"I will."

I stepped back and looked at her.

Her arms were stretched above her head and her back was arched, and she was breathing hard through her nose.

I put my mouth on the back of her neck, and she shivered all the way down.

I kissed down her spine, one knob at a time.

I dropped to my knees behind her and put my hands on her round ass and spread her, and I put my tongue where she had never been touched.

She gasped and bucked against the silk.

"Jack, that's..."

"Good girl. Hold still."

"I can't."

"Then I'll make you."

I licked her slowly until her legs began to shake, and I reached around and found her clit with two fingers.

She came fast, with a cry she bit off against her own arm.
