Chapter 26: Rehearsal
Jude looked at me while the director talked.
He signed everything she said, a half second behind her.
"His lawyer sent me a letter an hour ago," the director said. "It says she took the code with her when she left."
"Has anybody sued her?" Jude asked.
"Not that I know of."
"Has anybody served her with anything? Any court at all?"
A pause.
"No."
"Then it's a letter," Jude said.
"It's a letter from a company in my program, Jude. Six hundred people and a livestream."
"I can't have two of my presenters in a fight on my stage."
I typed on my phone and held it out to him.
He read it aloud for me.
"She says she won't say a word about his company onstage. She'll present Rasp."
I wasn't going to say anything about his company.
I was going to show it.
The director sighed into the phone.
"Rehearsal is Wednesday the ninth. Both teams. I'll watch you both and I'll decide that day."
"You didn't lie to her," he signed.
"No."
"You also didn't tell her."
I picked the drawing up off the dresser and put it back between the two pieces of cardboard.
