Chapter 6: The Heat

The heat came on the eleventh day, in the middle of council, with Ren Ito sitting four seats down.

The rider with the silver ring had been gone ten days, and Min-jun's captain had not yet found him.

Min-jun was reading a border report aloud when the page began to swim.

His skin went tight and hot. His mouth watered. Behind him the room sounded far away, and between his legs the slick began to run.

"Prince?" the eldest elder said.

"A moment."

He stood too fast and the chair scraped.

Every head in the room turned, and not one of them smelled it.

The veil held.

But Ren's nostrils flared once, and his dark eyes narrowed and fixed on Min-jun's flushed face.

Min-jun walked out of the hall.

He walked down the corridor with one hand on the wall, then down the stairs, and then he was running.

He reached the bedchamber and fell against the door and found a hand already there, holding it open.

Seo-jun stood in front of him with his shirt unlaced and his pupils blown black.

"I smelled you through three walls," he said. His voice shook. "I was in the stable. I ran."

"Seo-jun."

"I can't stop. I can't stop, Min-jun."

"Don't."

Min-jun grabbed his collar and dragged him in and kicked the door shut.

They did not reach the bed.

Seo-jun pushed him against the wall by the stove and kissed him, open-mouthed and desperate.

His mouth tasted of snow.

His hands went under Min-jun's robe and tore at the sash.

Min-jun's robe hit the floor, and then his trousers.

Seo-jun's palms slid over his bare ass and parted him.

The slick that had run down Min-jun's thighs for an hour ran onto Seo-jun's fingers.

"Gods," Seo-jun said, shaking. "Look how wet you are."

"It's for you."
