Chapter 13: Speaker

Casey's POV

I read the email over his shoulder, twice, with my chin on his collarbone.

"She had the lawyers do it," Rafe said. "She never asked me."

"She asked her husband. In her head, he said yes."

"I did not say yes."

"You said yes for three years."

He turned his head and looked at me.

"That is the meanest thing you've said all week."

"It's midnight," I said. "I'm saving the rest for tomorrow."

His phone buzzed in his hand. The screen said Lyd, with a small green heart.

We both stared at it.

"Don't answer," he said. "Let it ring."

"If you don't pick up, she'll wonder why. She already thinks something's off."

"Casey."

"Put it on speaker."

He did it with one thumb, slowly.

"Baby!" Lydia's voice filled my bedroom, bright and warm.

"Did you see it? I wanted it to be a surprise."

"I saw it," Rafe said. His voice came out steady, which I hadn't expected.

"Aren't you happy? Three years, and now everyone gets to know."

I slid down the bed.

Rafe's eyes followed me. He mouthed my name, and I put one finger to my lips.

"I'm happy," he said. "I'm just surprised."

"Good surprised?"

"Lyd, I'm in a stranger's spare room at midnight."

"Rafe, you're sweet."

I pulled the sheet away from his hips.

"Rule two," I whispered, barely a breath. "Is she watching?"

"No," he mouthed.

"She's listening, though."

He closed his eyes.

I took his cock in my hand. It was already hard, and it jumped when I touched it.

"Here is what I'm thinking," Lydia said. "We do it at the party."

"Sure," Rafe said, a little strangled.

"You and me on the stage, a toast, one kiss. Your followers will lose their minds."
