Chapter 21: Three Slaps on the Table

"Now we begin," the host said again, and let go of my collar.

"I will choose who comes next," I said.

My voice was thin, but it carried.

The host raised his eyebrows.

"The fee was ten thousand euros, mademoiselle."

"The fee buys the room. It doesn't buy me." I sat up on the white cloth and drew my knees to my chest. "I pick. I say who, and what, and how long. If anyone here disagrees, I'll dress and go."

Nobody laughed.

At the wall, Auguste's mouth moved in something close to a smile.

The host studied me.

"Very well," he said. "Choose."

I looked down both rows of old faces. A bald man with kind eyes. A thin one with rings. One who had not touched me, only watched.

"You," I said to the bald man. "On your knees."

He knelt on the carpet.

I put my feet on his shoulders, and he buried his face between my thighs.

He was slow and careful, and I let my head fall back and moaned.

When I had had enough, I pushed him off with my heel.

"You," I said to the man with rings. "Sit down. Don't touch me. I'll do it."

He sat in the host's chair.

I slid off the table and knelt between his legs.

I opened his trousers and took him in my mouth, with the whole table leaning in to watch.

"Beg," someone whispered.

I begged.

I said please around him, and thank you, and I said I was a whore and a good one.

I begged the one who had only watched to come and take me over the table.

He did, bending me over the cloth and holding my wrists in one hand while he fucked me.

It was good.

It was unhurried and shameless, and every hand in the room was mine to give or refuse.

I came again, face down in the linen.

When he finished, I turned my head and looked along the wall.

My men had not moved.

They watched with their jaws set and their hands at their sides, as I had asked.
