Chapter 6: Nine Hours

Saturday came with rain on the windows and nowhere to be.

Perrin had slept in the guest room again, alone this time, because Malcolm had said, "Not until you ask me to."

He asked at four in the afternoon, in the kitchen, with a mug of cocoa in both hands.

"I want you to take me upstairs," he said.

Malcolm set down the dish towel.

"To the guest room?"

"No." Perrin's cheeks burned. "To yours."

Malcolm looked at him for a long moment.

"Tell me what you want," he said. "Say it, baby boy. I won't guess."

Perrin put down the cocoa.

His heart was running ahead of him, but his voice, when it came, was clear.

"I want you to touch me," he said. "All of me. I want you in charge, and I want you to say I'm good. And I don't want to be little for this one. I want to be me."

"All right," Malcolm said, very low.

He crossed the kitchen and took Perrin's face in both hands.

"Then you're mine for the afternoon," he said. "And you're going to tell me whenever you want more."

"I want more."

"Already?" Malcolm said.

"Already."

Malcolm kissed him until the cocoa went cold.

They went up the stairs with Malcolm's hand firm at the small of his back.

The master bedroom was gray and white, and the tight white bed sat beneath the window with the rain streaking it.

Malcolm stopped just inside the door.

For the briefest second his eyes went to the bed, and something in them flinched.

"Malcolm?" Perrin said.

"I'm all right." He turned and pressed Perrin back against the doorframe, and the flinch was gone. "I want you, that's all. For longer than I know how to say."

He took the sweater off over Perrin's head, and then the shirt beneath it.

Perrin shivered, bare to the waist in the cool room.

Malcolm stood back and simply looked at him.

His gaze moved slowly over the freckles on his shoulders, the narrow ribs, the pink flush spreading down his chest.

"Look at you," he said. "Look at what you've been hiding from me."
