Chapter 7: First Night

His bedroom was at the top of the stairs, under the roof, with a slanted ceiling and a window full of painted stars.

The bed was narrow and had a patchwork quilt, a plain one, not pink.

He kicked the door shut behind us.

"Tell me what you want," Garvan said.

He said it.

"You," I said. "On this bed. Now."

"Say it again."

"I want you to fuck me, Garvan."

He made a sound I felt in my stomach.

His hands went to the hem of my hoodie and dragged it up and over my head, and he dropped it on the floor.

I wore a tank top under it, and nothing under that.

He stopped.

He looked at me for a long moment, his chest rising and falling.

"I've wanted this since you bit me," he said roughly. "I'm sorry. It's true."

"Don't be sorry. I'm twenty-four, and I know exactly what I want."

"I'm twenty-nine," he said, "and I've never been this unsure of my own hands."

"They're doing fine."

I pulled his flannel open and shoved it off his shoulders.

Pale scars ran across his ribs and his back in neat lines.

I put my palm flat on them.

He shivered.

"Does it hurt?"

"Not when you touch it."

He lifted me.

My legs went around his waist, and he carried me to the bed and put me down in the middle of it.

He knelt over me and took my tank top in both hands and pulled it off.

The cool air hit my skin, and then his mouth did.

He kissed my collarbone, then lower, and closed his lips around my nipple and sucked hard.

I arched off the quilt and grabbed his hair.

"Garvan."

"Louder."

He turned his head and gave the other breast the same treatment.
