I looked him in the eye.

"Then I hope she's a good liar under oath."

"She's my daughter," he said. "She's good at everything."

He stepped back and buttoned his jacket.

"July 11, Clem. Wheels up by nine. I'll even send a car."

He left me standing against the paneling in the empty boardroom.

My hands didn't start shaking until he was gone.

They didn't stop until Dolly found me and pushed a glass of water into them.

The invitation came on Friday afternoon.

Not from Kirsten.

From her planner, to my personal email, with a lot of exclamation points.

Kirsten would LOVE for her sister to stop by her rooftop bachelorette tomorrow night! 8pm! Fireworks! Kirsten says to bring your passport, haha!

"Absolutely not," Wyeth said on the phone.

"She wants an audience."

"So don't give her one."

"She has eighty thousand people watching her every night," I said. "She'll have an audience either way. I'd rather it was in my building."
