Chapter 20: The Wedding

"We will," I said.

Curtis laughed and shut the door.

Through the blinds, I watched him sit back down at the laptop.

He didn't even lower the blinds.

Abel and I went back over the wall by the rosemary.

He ripped the other sleeve.

At twelve-forty we were sitting on plastic chairs in the police station on the Peninsula.

A detective with reading glasses on a cord watched Abel's video twice on his phone.

Then he looked at my photos of the venue tablet.

Then the venue login history, and the log from the house.

"Cameras in a man's home," the detective said slowly. "Footage doctored to put you somewhere you weren't."

"Yes."

"That's unlawful surveillance at the least." He took his glasses off. "I'd like to speak to Mr. Bramwell."

"He'll be at a wedding tomorrow," I said. "In Point Loma. From four o'clock."

"I'll make a note," he said.

"We could call Esteban," Abel said in the truck. "Right now. Show him the video."

"And Curtis tells him a story."
