Chapter 18: The Bath

I could not get the blood off.

The Luna's bath was in the north tower, a stone room with a deep tub and a window on the dark mountains.

Caspian had filled it with hot water himself and gone to stand by the door.

I sat on the rim with my sleeves rolled and scrubbed my left hand until the skin burned.

"It's gone," he said gently.

"It isn't."

"Sorcha."

"It's in the scar. I can see it."

I could not see anything but the white line and the red under it.

I had put a knife into a man who had held me up for three years, and my hand would not stop shaking.

He crossed the room and knelt on the wet stone in front of me.

He didn't touch me.

"Rule one," he said.

I looked at his hands, open on his knees, and my eyes burned.

"I'm saying so," I said.

He took my hand in both of his.

He washed it with a cloth, slowly, finger by finger, and when he reached the scar he pressed his thumb over it and held it there.

"There," he said. "It's clean."

I looked.

It was clean.

I leaned forward and put my forehead against his.

"I need to not think," I said.

"Tell me what you need."

"I need you to make me stop."

His breath caught.

"Here?"

"Here."

I stood and let the robe fall.

The room was warm and full of steam, and he looked up at me from the floor with his mouth slightly open.

He put his hands on my hips and turned me, gently, until I sat on the rim of the tub with my knees apart.

"Tell me if it's too much," he said.

"I'll tell you if it isn't enough."

He smiled against my thigh.

Then he put his mouth on me.

I cried out and grabbed his hair.

His tongue was slow and thorough, circling my clit and dipping lower and coming back, and he groaned into me.
