Chapter 5: Rose Island

The swell had beaten us off the iron door by ten o'clock.

I told him to anchor in the lee of Rose Island and cut the engine.

Now the Lucia rocked gently on her chain, and the only light on the whole bay was stars.

"Take your shirt off," I said.

Tiago pulled it over his head.

I stood on the foredeck in his oilskin and nothing else but my underwear.

A coil of soft braided mooring line hung over my shoulder.

He looked at the line.

"Captain," he said.

Then I sat back on his thighs and looked at him.

He lay spread out on the planking under the stars, with his arms stretched and his chest rising.

I had never seen a man so willing to be looked at.

"Now you stay still," I said. "I'm going to take my time."

"How long?"

"Until I'm finished."

His laugh turned into a groan when I put my mouth on his throat.

I kissed him there, and along his collarbone, and down the middle of his chest, over the brass disc, which I skipped.

His stomach tightened under my lips.

I undid his jeans with both hands, pulled them off his hips, and he lifted for me, helping, shaking a little.

"I'm going to call you Captain until the day I die," he said through his teeth.

It was so deep that I stayed there a moment, eyes shut, letting my body learn him again.

He tugged against the rope, which held, and then he went still, as I'd told him to.

"Look at me," he said.

I opened my eyes.

The Milky Way was above us, and his face was below, and I put both hands on his chest and began to move, slowly.

I raised myself to the tip and came down hard, and he cursed, and I did it again.

"Do you like that?" I asked.

"God, yes."

"Tell me how much," I said.
