Santino stood up.
The young capo's men started to move with him.
The Don lifted two fingers, and they stopped.
Forty guests in their party clothes watched the heir walk out into the middle of the lounge alone.
He didn't look at Mickey.
He looked at his father.
"Yes," he said.
The capo with the cane set his Barolo down.
"Say all of it," he said. "Here. Not in a back room."
"All of it," Santino said.
He took a breath.
"I've had Nunzio watched since July. For the trucks. I didn't bring it to this table because I wanted the whole ledger first."
"In August my men brought me pictures of him with the events manager. I knew she was engaged. I knew to whom."
"I sat at that bar three times a night and said nothing to him."
The fat capo shifted in his chair.
"When my father went down, I saw the lemon, and I knew it was Nunzio. I knew this table would never take my word against his."
"So I claimed the bartender in front of all of you."
