Chapter 17: The Lobby
"There's a garage exit," Si-wan said. "It goes out onto the back road. Nobody's there."
"No."
"Eun-ho..."
"Those are my terms."
Si-wan closed his mouth.
He stood in front of the bedroom mirror in a fresh white shirt.
Eun-ho buttoned his cuffs for him, because his fingers weren't working.
Eun-ho wore his grey suit, the same one, with the collar open.
It was the first time in six years he had left a button undone.
"Beside you or behind you?" Si-wan asked quietly. "You choose."
"Beside."
"Then I'll be beside."
They took the public elevator, because Eun-ho had asked for the long way.
It was glass-walled and slow, and floor by floor the lobby came up to meet them.
The sound reached them before the sight.
It was a low, hungry roar, coming up through the shaft.
Then the doors opened.
The lobby of Si-wan's tower was a white marble hall three stories high, and it was packed from wall to wall.
There were reporters with cameras.
There were residents in bathrobes.
A line of Registry officers in grey jackets stood by the revolving door, with a white van idling at the curb behind them.
