Chapter 14: Three A.M.

Orin drove me back to the loft with one hand on the wheel and the other wrapped around mine.

Neither of us said a word on the stairs.

Toby had gone home to tell Mom. I had told him to, and I had not hugged him.

The loft door shut behind us and every lamp was already burning.

I turned around and my back hit the wood.

"Veronica," Orin said.

"Don't ask me if I'm okay."

"I wasn't going to."

"Good." My hands were in his shirt. "I was in the dark for forty minutes and I don't want to be gentle."

His eyes went black.

"Then don't be," he said.

He kissed me so hard that my head knocked the door.

I pulled his henley up over his ribs and he tore it off the rest of the way.

My sweater went across the room. My bra hung off one shoulder, and his mouth was on my throat, then lower, hot and rough.

I dragged his belt open and he caught my wrists in one hand.

"Slow down," he said, laughing against my neck. "You'll hurt yourself."

"Make me."

He lifted me by the thighs and I locked my legs around his waist.

He carried me across the loft and put my back against the brick wall beside the bookcase.

The brick was cold and rough through my skin. His body was hot all down the front of me.

"Jeans," he said.

"Rip them."

He did not rip them. He wrenched them down my hips with one hand and held me up with the other, and I kicked them off.

His fingers found my pussy, wet, slick and already shaking.

"Look at you," he said, low. "I barely touched you and you're already shaking."
