Chapter 5: Quarry Road
The quarry road climbed in switchbacks above the Allegheny, and Milan drove it with one hand on the wheel and the other on my knee.
He didn't say where we were going until the gravel ran out.
He pulled onto a flat shelf of rock at the top, shut off the headlights, and let the engine tick.
Below us the river had gone dark gray, with a few lights on the far bank.
The heater blew warm on my shins.
His truck smelled of coffee, sawdust and dog, and there was a coil of yellow rope on the floor by my boots.
"Milan," I said. "About what Rick said."
"Carly."
"Don't answer. I don't want it answered tonight."
He turned and looked at me across the bench seat.
I put my hand on his thigh and slid it up, and I felt the muscle go hard under my palm.
"Tell me what to do," I said. "That's what I came for."
His eyes went over my face.
I thought he would argue, and I saw the exact moment he decided not to.
"Take your boots off," he said.
"That's your first order?" I said.
"Boots. Then the jeans."
"In a truck?"
"In my truck," Milan said. "I've got all night and a full tank."
I bent over and unlaced my boots, and my elbow cracked against the dash.
He watched me wrestle one boot off and then the other, and his mouth twitched in his beard.
"Something funny?"
"You're the one who wanted to be told."
I got my jeans down over my hips and tangled them on one sock, and I kicked them into the footwell.
I sat there in my underwear and my sweater, trembling.
It was the cold and nerves, and how much I wanted him.
"Come here," he said. "Over me. Face me, knees on the seat."
I climbed across the bench.
I put a knee on either side of his hips and settled on his lap.
He was already hard under his jeans, pressed against me through the thin cotton.
His hands came up and spread over my ass.
They were so big that they covered all of it.
"Sweater," Milan said.
I pulled it off over my head.
The windshield behind me was starting to fog.
He undid my bra with a flick of two fingers and pushed it up.
He put his mouth on me and sucked until I arched against him, and I made a small desperate sound.
"There's no one for a mile," he said against my skin. "Make all the noise you want."
I rocked on his lap, grinding down, and he held me by the hips and let me.
"Undo my belt," he said.
I got the buckle, and the button, and I pulled down the zipper, and he lifted his hips so I could push his jeans down.
He was hot and hard, and when I wrapped my hand around him, he leaned his head back against the seat and shut his eyes.
