Chapter 3: The Bond Opens
Margo and Lucian drink each other's blood and the bond opens, until Tristan knocks on the suite door at 3:40.
Lucian crossed the room in three steps.
He took my face in both hands and did not kiss me.
He looked at me for a long moment, and his eyes went red.
"Last chance," he said. "Tell me to stop."
"Bite me, Ward."
His mouth came down on my neck.
The first pull of his fangs went through me, and I gasped and dug my nails into his shirt.
It did not hurt for long.
It turned hot at once, and the heat ran straight down my spine and settled between my legs.
I had been bitten before, once, by a boy in college, and it had been nothing.
This was nothing like that.
Lucian drank, and every swallow he took pulled a sound out of me that I had never made for Tristan.
His hand slid down my back and gripped my hip and dragged me against him.
I felt how hard he was through his trousers.
"Lucian," I said, and then I remembered the rule and bit my lip.
He lifted his head.
My blood was on his mouth.
"Say it," he said. "Not tonight, you said. So say it later."
"I'm not saying anything."
"Then take your turn."
He pulled his collar aside and put my mouth against his throat.
I opened my jaw and bit down.
His blood hit my tongue, dark and sharp, and the whole room tilted.
I felt it before I understood it.
His anger came through me first, so old and so tightly held that it frightened me.
Under it was something worse, a thin raw fear that had nothing to do with me.
It was fear for somebody else, and he had carried it for three years.
I pulled away with a cry.
"It's open," I said. "I can feel you."
"I feel you too," he said hoarsely. "You are terrified, and you are furious, and you want me so badly it is making me stupid."
I laughed, shakily.
"Can you lie on this bond?"
"No."
"Neither can I."
"Then you know," he said, and he walked me backward until my knees hit the bed.
He tore the zipper of my dress down the back.
The dress I had picked out for the night before the ceremony fell to the floor, and he looked at me in the lamp light and made a low sound in his chest.
"Look at you."
"Stop looking and do something about it."
He pushed me back onto the sheets and went down on his knees at the edge of the bed.
He pulled my underwear off, and he put his mouth on my pussy.
I cried out.
His tongue was slow at first, then not slow at all, and he held my thighs apart with both hands so I could not move.
Every swirl across my clit came back to me twice, once in my body and once through the bond, where I felt how much he liked the taste of me.
"You like that," he said against me. "I can feel exactly how much."
"Don't talk. Don't."
"Then come for me."
I came with my hand in his hair and my heel in his back, and the bond lit up and he groaned, because it had happened to him too.
He stood, and I sat up and undid his belt with shaking fingers.
He was thick and hot in my hand, and I stroked him once, slowly, and watched his jaw lock.
"Margo."
It was the first time he had said my name.
I liked it too much.
I pulled him down on top of me.
He pushed in slow, one long inch at a time, and I wrapped my legs around his waist and took every bit of it.
He was big, and he stretched me so full that I could not breathe.
He held still, deep inside me, and his forehead dropped to mine.
"Move," I said. "Fuck me."
He moved.
He fucked me hard and steady, his hips driving into mine until the bed knocked against the wall.
I felt his pleasure rising in my own body, then mine in his, and neither of us could tell whose it was.
I clawed his back.
I bit his shoulder, and he swore and drove into me harder.
"Mine," he said, rough and low, and then he stopped himself. "For tonight. For the bond."
"For tonight," I gasped. "Don't stop."
He did not stop.
He got a hand between us and rubbed my clit in small tight circles, and I came again, clenching on his cock, my head thrown back and his name tearing out of my throat before I could catch it.
"There it is," he said, and then he followed me.
He came with his face in my neck, shaking, and I felt every pulse of it inside me.
The last of the bite closed over, and the bond locked into place.
I lay under him with my heart pounding.
Neither of us said a word for a while.
Then the clock on the wall clicked over to 3:40.
Lucian's head came up.
"Someone's in the hall," he said.
Through the bond I felt his whole body go cold.
I smelled it half a second later.
Cedar and dark amber, right outside the door.
Tristan knocked once, softly.
"Margo," he said through the wood. "I know you're in there."
