Mattias went to Brock's house alone, on a Tuesday afternoon, with his phone recording in his jacket pocket.
He had not told Linus.
He knew what Linus would say.
He knew he would agree, and he needed to do this one thing without being talked out of it.
Brock opened the door in a team sweatshirt with a bowl of cereal in his hand.
"Pehrson." He smiled around the spoon. "Come to apologize?"
"I came to talk."
"Come in, then. Don't track snow."
The living room still smelled of last month's party.
Mattias stood in the middle of the carpet and did not sit.
"You posted take two," he said.
"I did no such thing."
"It was in the team folder. You set up the folder. The captain checked the log."
Brock shrugged, set the bowl on the arm of the couch, and for a moment his face showed what was under the smile.
"So what?" he said.
"You were going to lose it anyway."
He shrugged.
"A semester from now Daddy would've found out, and you'd have been dumped in the street. I did you a favor."
"You've been selling papers since freshman year," Mattias said.
"I've been providing a service."
