Chapter 11: His Kitchen Table
His apartment was on the twenty-second floor, and neither of us looked at the view.
He locked the door behind us and stood with his back against it.
"It's not Tuesday," I said.
"No."
"It's not Thursday either."
"Ms. Heathcote," he said, in his driest voice, "I believe you're stalling."
I dropped my tote on the floor, and I walked into his kitchen, and I sat up on the table.
It was a long oak table with nothing on it but a bowl of green apples.
"You said the table," I said.
Maxwell crossed the room.
He stopped between my knees.
He put one hand on each side of my face, very gently, and kissed me slow. It was nothing like the back road.
"Say it again," I said into his mouth.
"What?"
"What you said in the ballroom."
"I said I wanted your dress around your waist."
"Then do it."
He did.
His hands went down my thighs and pushed the black wool up past my hips.
The cold of the wood hit the backs of my legs.
I heard him breathe out.
"You wore these today," he said. He had found the lace. "To a luncheon."
"I didn't plan on you."
"Liar."
"I planned on it a little."
He laughed, low, and then he knelt.
I had never had a man kneel for me before. I put both hands flat on the table behind me to hold myself up.
He kissed the inside of my knee. He kissed higher.
"Maxwell..."
"I'm going to take my time with you."
"Don't you dare stop."
He hooked a finger in the lace and pulled it aside, and his mouth was on my pussy before I could take another breath.
He was slow with it. He licked me in long, deliberate strokes, and then he closed his lips around my clit and sucked until my back came off the table.

He glanced up at me. His eyes were dark.
