Chapter 23: The Night Before
Four hundred copies of After Hours, Chief stood in boxes against the wall of the Nakano apartment.
Neither man had looked at them for an hour.
It was the twenty-ninth of December, nearly midnight, and the radiator ticked under the window.
Sota lay on his back on the futon with the lamp turned low and the chief kneeling over him, taking his time.
He had been taking his time for forty minutes.
He had undressed Sota line by line, with a thumb under each button.
He had not once looked at the clock.
"We have to sleep," Sota said.
"We will."
"The alarm is at four."
"Then we have four hours," the chief said, against his stomach. "That is a luxury."
He kissed the line of Sota's hip.
It was the third time he had done it, and it was the third time Sota's whole leg trembled.
The chief's hair was loose, for once, hanging into his eyes.
His glasses sat on top of the box nearest the bed.
The spine of the top copy said, in gold letters, THE FOURTEENTH FLOOR.
"Turn over," he said. "The other way."
"Which other way?"
"Head to foot."
Sota stared at the ceiling.
Then his ears went red, and he understood, and he turned himself around on the futon without a word.
The chief lay down beside him, and then over him, in the opposite direction, with his knees on either side of Sota's head.
It put his cock right above Sota's mouth, flushed and heavy and shining.
It put Sota's own, hard and aching, right under the chief's.
"Oh," Sota said, to it.
"Is that acceptable?"
"It's very acceptable."
"I have been considering this," the chief said, in his office voice, a little muffled, "since the second week."
