Chapter 6: Livestream Forgiveness

By the fourth night, Aisling had a routine at Starling Records.

She came in at midnight with her guitar, badged in at the empty front desk, and rode the elevator up to Studio B.

On the fifth afternoon she came early to sign a visitor form, and the lobby was not empty.

Kaitlyn stood by the white piano in the middle of the room, holding her phone up at arm's length.

Her mother stood beside her, dabbing her eyes.

A little red dot glowed in the corner of Kaitlyn's screen.

She was live.

"Oh, there she is," Kaitlyn said to the phone. "Everyone, this is my sister. Aisling, come here, please."

The receptionist looked down at her desk.

Aisling stopped ten feet away. "Turn it off."

"I can't, sweetheart, I've been on for twenty minutes. Everyone's been so worried about you."

A number in the corner of the screen showed forty thousand viewers, and it kept climbing.

"Aisling," her mother said, and her voice shook on cue. "We just want to know you're safe."

Kaitlyn's face crumpled into the kind of crying that photographs well.

"I'm not here to fight," she told the camera. "I just want everyone to know I forgive her. For the things she said. For the recording. I know she's struggling right now, and I know it isn't her fault."

The comments scrolled by too fast to read.

Aisling caught pieces of them. Poor Kaitlyn. Her sister sounds unwell. Bring her home.
