At ten on Thursday night, I was alone on level two of the garage, loading foam boards into the back of Gwen's hatchback.
The pitch deck was done, and so was I.
I had my arms around a board the size of a door when Trevor stepped out from behind a concrete pillar.
He wore a navy quarter-zip and a smile he must have practiced on the drive.
"Pipe."
"Don't."
"Felicity," he said, with a little bow. "Better?"
"No."
I slid the board in and shut the hatch.
"Nobody here to carry that for you," he said. "I heard Maddox got walked out of his own building."
"I'm carrying my own boards."
"I can see that."
He glanced at the empty row of cars and lowered his voice, though no one was within a hundred feet.
"I'm going to make you an offer, and I want you to hear the whole thing before you say a word."
