I didn't call Magnus about the invitation.
I'd asked for space, and I meant to take it, even if it meant carrying Randall's handwriting around in my apron pocket all weekend.
Joanne had come in twice since the opening, both times after close.
She sat at the far end of the counter with a cup of coffee she didn't drink.
She'd been to the bank, she said, and she was waiting on paper.
I let her sit.

The two bus drivers had theirs, the fourth and fifth, and had stopped fighting about it since I told them the fourth one was Gretchen's.
There was an old TV on the shelf above the pie case that had been my mother's.
