Chapter 19: Winter Moon

Linnea's POV

I took them up the ridge on the night the moon was full over the bay.

It was the spot where I had lain on my belly for six years with a thermos and watched their lamp.

A single huge cedar stood there, and snow lay blue and still on every branch.

"This is where you watched us," Mikkel said.

"This is where."

"It's freezing."

"Not for long," I said.

I let the wolf come up.

It starts at the back of the skull, a pressure, and then the senses open.

The night went sharp.

I smelled snow and pitch and the salt of the bay.

I smelled the two of them, woodsmoke and skin and heat, so clearly that I swayed.

My nails thickened.

My teeth grew in my mouth, and my eyes took the moon and threw it back.

Anders stared at me.

"Gold," he said. "Your eyes are gold."

"Yours are, too."

They were, both of them, bright in the dark, and Mikkel's smile had gone sharp and wild.

"Half," Mikkel said. "Only half. We'll keep our hands."

"Good," I said. "I want your hands."

They stripped me first.

Two pairs of hands peeled my coat and my sweater and my jeans away, and the cold hit my skin and slid off it.

I stood naked in the snow with the moon on my breasts, and neither of them could speak.

I stripped them in turn.

Anders's shirt, with the cuffs undone and the sleeves pushed up, and Mikkel's jeans, shoved down together with his boots.

They were both fully hard in the freezing air.

I knelt on Mikkel's coat in the snow between them.

I took Anders in my hand and Mikkel in the other and looked from one to the other.

"Which first?" Mikkel said, grinning.

"Both."

I licked Anders from the root of the knot to the head, slowly, and took him into my mouth.

He groaned and put a hand in my hair.

I let him go and turned to Mikkel and sucked him deep, and he swore at the stars.

I went back and forth between them, mouth and hand, mouth and hand.

I tasted salt on one and cedar oil on the other.
