"He built his retirement on us," Stefan said, very quietly.
"He built it on the girls' beds," I said.
By eight the next morning I was on the steps of the Ashland County Courthouse with Sabina and Cass.
With us was a young legal aid lawyer in a wrinkled suit, carrying a briefcase with a broken clasp.
"We're filing as former beneficiaries," she said. "Three petitions. A public accounting of the Lakeshore Trust, and an emergency stay on any transfer of current residents while the accounting is pending."
