Chapter 25: The Hunter's Moon
"Then take him off it," I said.
"I can't. The Royal Physician asked for him by name, and the King's office signed it."
"And I'm family. I'm off anything with your name on it."
"So he'll be standing behind the King."
"Twelve feet from you," Hadrian said. "With a dress sword."
Nero put his arm around my shoulders.
"Then we sit in the front row," he said. "All of us. Twelve feet from him."
The Hunter's Moon came up over the river at half past six on Monday, huge and orange.
I watched it rise through the high windows of the Great Hall from a hard chair at the side of the floor.
Three chairs. Three finalists.
The Hall was full to the back doors.
Residents in their good clothes. Cadets in dress uniform, row after row. Nurses. The hockey team, all of it, in one block.
Roxy was in the third row with her boyfriend, in gold hoops the size of saucers.
