Chapter 22: The Bond

Macy's POV

I put my mouth on the side of his neck and bit.

Not hard.

I bit just hard enough to feel the skin give, and he made a sound that I had never heard from any man.

His whole body arched under mine.

I tasted him, salt and heat and cut grass.

When I lifted my head there was a crescent of small marks on his throat, red and bright, and they were mine.

"There," I said.

His eyes were wet.

"Macy."

"That's the first bite. Now you."

He rolled us over, careful of his side, and I let him.

He braced himself over me with his arms trembling.

"Look at me," he said.

"I'm looking."

"If you say stop, I stop. Even now."

"I know you do," I said. "That's why I'm not going to."

He lowered his mouth to my shoulder.

His teeth were sharper than before, and my pulse beat under them.

I put my hand in his hair.

"Do it."

He bit.

It was a bright hot pain that lasted only a moment.

Then the pain turned into something else, a pulling in my chest, a warmth that moved through my veins and settled somewhere under my ribs.

I gasped.

I felt him.

I felt him, whole, inside my own chest.

His heart was going hard, and mine was keeping time, and for the length of one long breath I could feel both of them at once.

*Mine,* he said, without opening his mouth.

*Yes,* I said back.

He lifted his head with my blood on his lip, and he was crying.

"I didn't know it would be like this," he said.

"Neither did I."

I pulled him down and kissed the blood off his mouth.

Then he moved in me again, because I told him to, slow and deep, and I held on to his shoulders and came with his name in my mouth.
