Chapter 22: The Empty House

The farmhouse was dark and quiet, and it smelled of Gran's bread and old wood.

Kirk shut the screen door behind us and stood in the kitchen with his hat in his hand.

He looked at the table where I had wrapped his bleeding hand in a dish towel.

"I've thought about this room more than I should," he said.

"Which part?"

"All of it. You with the towel. You in the dark, kissing me." His voice dropped. "Me saying no."

"Is anyone under your command tonight, sir?"

"Only one person."

"Who?"

"Come here and find out."

I crossed the kitchen in three steps and took his hat out of his hand and set it on the table.

He took my face in both palms and kissed me.

It was slow for about two seconds.

Then weeks of wanting came up in both of us at once, and he lifted me onto the edge of the counter and stepped between my knees.

I wrapped my legs around him.

My hands went to his buttons, and I worked them open one at a time, and he let me, breathing hard against my mouth.

"You took your time," I said.

"I'm standing in your grandmother's kitchen with my shirt open. I'm going as fast as I'm able."

I laughed into his neck and slid the shirt off his shoulders.

He tugged my sweater over my head.

My bra followed it to the floor, and his mouth closed over my breast, hot and sure.

I gasped and dropped my head back against the cabinet.

He licked and sucked until I was clutching his hair, and my hips rolled against his belt without my permission.

"Kirk."

"Yes."

"I want you inside me."

"Not yet."

He knelt on Gran's linoleum and peeled my jeans down my legs.

He kissed the inside of my knee, and then my thigh, and then he pulled my underwear aside with one finger and put his mouth on me.

I cried out.

He held my hips on the counter and licked my clit in slow, firm circles, and his groan went through me.

Two fingers slid into my pussy and curled, and I saw white.

"Look at me," he said against me.

I looked down.

He was watching my face with his mouth wet, and the sight of it undid me.
