We ate the bottom of the cake for breakfast.
Nobody on Prytania Street had ever seen a bride and groom eat wedding cake in his mother's kitchen at seven in the morning.
Encore lay under the table with icing on his ears, not sorry at all.

By ten in the morning on Mardi Gras, St. Charles Avenue was a wall of ladders and folding chairs from one curb to the other.
