Chapter 17: The Loft in the Dark

I did not sleep that night either.

The moon was on the lake, and the loft window was open an inch to let the cold in.

I stood in front of it in his old thermal shirt.

I was thinking about a ring in Nolan's pocket and a church on Sunday.

I heard the bed creak behind me.

"Come back to bed," Russ said.

"I can't sleep."

"I noticed."

"You were asleep."

"I was asleep until you stopped breathing like a person who's asleep."

I laughed, and then I did not.

He got up and came to stand behind me.

He did not touch me for a moment.

I felt the heat of him down the length of my back, and the hair on my arms stood up.

"I should go back down to the couch," he said quietly.

"You shouldn't."

"No. I shouldn't."

His hands settled on my hips.

Then they slid up under the shirt, over my stomach and my ribs, and closed over my breasts.

I leaned back against his chest and let my head fall onto his shoulder.

"Ruby."

"Yes."

"I've wanted this since the diner."

"I know. You looked at my mouth the whole time."

"I looked at your mouth for three weeks."

He turned my face and kissed me, deep and hungry, with his thumbs rubbing across my nipples until I whimpered into his mouth.

I felt his cock harden against the small of my back, thick through his shorts.

I reached behind me and got a hand around it.

He groaned.

"Window," I said.

"What?"

"I want it here. At the window."

He pulled the thermal shirt up over my head and dropped it.

He bent me forward with one hand between my shoulder blades until my palms were flat on the sill.
