Chapter 17: What Park Knew
The photos were on every news site by midnight.
Aurora's friendly outlets had run them first, with the caption Choi had promised: "ARCLIGHT's Lim Ha-jun and his manager."
Min-seok called four times, and in the end Ha-jun picked up and said, "I'm fine. Go to sleep."
"You're trending."
"I know."
"Fans are split. Some are screaming, some are saying they knew since the pink backpack girl's video." Min-seok paused. "Is he there?"
"Yes."
"Good. Don't go home. They're outside 1204."
Ha-jun looked at Seung-ho, sitting on the edge of the hotel bed with his shirt open and his glasses back on, looking at nothing.
"I know," he said again, and hung up.
At nine in the morning they stood in front of Park Mi-sook's desk, side by side.
She had a newspaper, a tablet, and a cup of black tea.
She did not offer them seats.
"I have read the articles," she said. "I have read the comments. I have had four calls from Aurora's lawyers and one from the board. Tell me what you have, Ha-jun."
Ha-jun took the cream paper out of his jacket and laid it on her desk.
"It's Seung-ho's. It was signed twelve weeks ago."
Park picked it up and put on her reading glasses.
She read for a long time.
She read every line, and both signatures.
Then she set it down and took her glasses off.
"Moon Seung-ho."
"CEO."
"Aurora's people told me you were the best crisis manager in Seoul. They said it over lunch, very warmly. I wondered why Aurora was in such a hurry to give me its best man."
