Chapter 16: Switching Hands
"Kneel on the cot," Han said. "Face the wall."
Mo looked at him over his shoulder.
The tallow lamp was low and gold, the shutters were barred, and the sea hissed on the shingle below.
Nobody had come all day.
Han had waited for night.
"You're giving orders," Mo said.
"I told you. Tomorrow is mine."
Mo's mouth curved.
Then he turned, the whole huge scarred length of him, and went down on his knees on the thin mattress.
He put both hands on the wall above the cot and let his head fall forward.
White hair slid off his shoulders and hung to the small of his back.
Han stood behind him, naked, and looked.
For three hundred years this man had been the only person he feared.
Now he knelt in a fisherman's attic and waited for Han to touch him.
It undid something in Han's chest.
He climbed onto the cot behind him and spread his left hand over Mo's heart.
The pulse hit his palm, heavy and fast.
"Slow," Han said.
The beat dragged.
It dropped from a gallop to a walk, and from a walk to a long, deliberate thud.
Mo groaned.
"You can feel it too," Han said. "Everything slows down. Your breath, your blood. The whole world gets heavy."
"Zhaohe."
"Yes?"
"I'm going to kill you for this."
"After."
Han bent and set his mouth on the nape of Mo's neck.
He kissed his way across one shoulder, bit the thick muscle at the top, and soothed it with his tongue.
His right hand slid down the hard belly and found Mo's cock, already thick and heavy and flushed.
He took it in his fist and stroked it, once, slowly, root to tip.
Mo's breath shook.
Under Han's left palm, the heart wanted to leap, and Han held it down.
