They left Fon with the herb woman before dawn.
Ton wrote out everything he knew about the fever on the back of a paper and left it on the table with the last of his salt.
The herb woman read it standing up and nodded twice and didn't say anything.
Fon was asleep. Her breathing was a little better.
Ton stood over her a moment.
Then he went out.
Bua was waiting in the street with two horses.
"Where did you get these?"
"The palace stable. Nobody stops a prince."
"You went back in."
"I went back in."
"Did anyone see you?"
"The grooms. They see princes every day."
Ton swung up.
"The lotus."
"In my father's room."
