Micah's POV

Security took Brady out through the side doors, one hand on each elbow.

He didn't fight them.

He walked with his head down and his tuxedo jacket hanging open, and the program he had been holding dropped on the floor behind him.

Nobody picked it up.

The hall had broken into noise.

Four hundred people were talking at once, and half of them were holding up phones.

I stood by Cora's table with my hands at my sides and no idea what to do with them.

Phoebe had her arms around Cora's neck from behind and was crying openly into her hair.

"I'm fine," Cora kept saying. "I'm fine. I'm fine."

She looked at me over Phoebe's shoulder.

Her eyes were wet, and she was smiling.

I couldn't move.

"Mr. Ketterman."

The dean was at my elbow, with her glasses pushed up in her hair again.

"A moment," she said.

She walked me to the empty cloakroom, past the racks of coats, and shut the door.

"The committee will convene Monday," she said. "On your degrees, and on Mr. Sutliff's."

"Yes."

"You disclosed on your own. Before any complaint, before any proof against you, and with your files in hand." She spoke slowly. "That will be weighed. I can't tell you how."

"I didn't expect you to."

"Your fellowship is gone. I cannot return it. The rules are the rules."
