Chapter 13: Trade
The phone rang again before Vittorio could put it down.
It was the same unknown number.
He put it on speaker and set it on the nightstand between them.
"Boss," Dario Rizzo said, cheerful and a little out of breath. "Is the husband there?"
"I'm here," Silvio said.
"Good. My club, tomorrow at midnight. You walk in alone, and your sister walks out."
"If I see a Sartori car on my street, she goes in the harbor."
"No," Vittorio said.
"Ask your husband," Dario said, and hung up.
Silvio sat on the edge of the bed with the sheet in his lap.
His heart was slow and heavy, and he was already doing the arithmetic.
Vittorio was already pulling on his shirt.
"Get dressed," he said. "Every capo I have will be in the Table room in ten minutes."
The Table room was in the east wing, with no windows and one long oak table that had seated four generations of Sartori.
Six capos sat along it.
Bruno came in last with his arm strapped to his chest and his face grey, and nobody told him to go back to bed.
Vittorio stood at the head and said it plainly.
