Chapter 18: Another Sit-Down
The old Rizzo don received them in his own dining room, with his cane across his knees and every Rizzo capo standing along the walls.
Dario's chair at his right hand was empty.
Nobody had moved it.
Silvio walked in with Vittorio a step behind him and two Sartori guards holding Ottavio between them.
The room went quiet in a way Silvio felt on his skin.
"Silvio Sartori," the old don said.
It was the same dry rasp as before.
But the name came out slowly.
"Don Rizzo."
"You are not the man I was told you were. Sit."
Silvio sat in the chair across from him.
Vittorio stood behind it with one hand resting on the back, and did not take a seat.
"My son has gone," the old man said. "My seal has gone with him."
"This morning two of my dock foremen came to me, crying, because their wages had been held."
"I have not had men cry in my house for forty years."
"That was my hold," Silvio said. "I put it on for the reason your foremen will give you. I will lift it today."
