Chapter 21: The Studio Door
I walked back to campus.
It took an hour and a half and it was colder than the walk out.
The gate was locked so I went over the wall by the bike shed.
The arts building was locked too.
I knew a window on the ground floor that didn't shut properly. I'd used it twice before.
I got in through the window and went up to the studio.
I turned on the lamp and sat down at the bench.
The jar was still in its box from the semifinal. I got it out.
The lid didn't fit. That was the whole piece.
The jar was from Grandma's cupboard, an old stoneware thing, dark brown, with a hairline crack down one side and a lid that had warped in the kiln a hundred years ago.
I'd been putting off the lid because the lid was the hard part.
