Chapter 14: Over Tea
Mu-yeol did not let go of Woo-jin's hand.
That was the first thing, and Woo-jin held on to it, because he knew it would not last.
"Tell me," Mu-yeol said.
"All of it."
So Woo-jin did.
"It was the twelfth evening," he said. "Last time. The champions' tea, in her pavilion, with the lanterns."
"I was twenty-six."
"The cakes, the praise, the post, you have heard that part."
"The difference is that last time I answered her."
The fire popped.
Mu-yeol's hand was perfectly still around his.
"And you told her."
"I spilled a little tea on the table, and I drew it for her."
"The river road, the three nights, the Fork."
"She looked at it, and she said, how clever, and she poured me another cup."
"I was so happy."
Woo-jin's voice did something ugly there, and he let it.
"I told myself she meant to send an escort."
