Maerielle found Darian standing beside the breakfast table with her unused apology flowers behind him.
He'd arranged them to frame his face.
Thessa was trying to reach the teapot through the stems.
Tavrian came down beside Maerielle without offering to speak first.
She liked him more for leaving the answer in her hands.
Darian noticed their closeness and smiled toward the gathered guests.
"You see what all this repentance has achieved," he said.
Maerielle stopped beside the table.
"You've been announcing a fraud," she said.
"Explain what you mean."
He looked pleased to have her begin publicly.
"People have been encouraged to applaud things they don't understand."
Belsienne stood near the window with her instrument case.
Cyralise had come to collect the gloves she'd left behind.
