Osric's POV
My overnight bag had acquired a second overnight bag before I reached my bedroom door.
An attendant stood beside them holding a garment case.
Another waited with a box of shoes.
"I'm staying one night," I said.
The first attendant glanced at the shoes.
"There might be weather."
"There was weather yesterday."
He looked uncertain whether I was making a criticism of his preparation.
I put down the bag I'd packed myself.
"You're helping," I said.
"But I'd like to do this badly on my own."
The older woman from our supper appeared with a shaving kit.
She put it in my hand.
"Do this part well," she said.
The men tried not to smile.
I thanked her and put it in my bag.
The garment case remained between me and the passage.
"Is that the formal coat?" I asked.
