Chapter 20: Breakfast for Two
In the morning, Miles came back with coffee and two pastries.
We'd spent the night together, and I was glad he'd stayed.
He put the paper bag on the little table by the window.
"I wasn't sure which you liked," he said.
I looked inside and found two identical cinnamon rolls.
Miles looked at them too.
"That sounded more convincing downstairs," he admitted.
"I told the baker to give me one of each, and she gave me two cinnamon."
I sat beside him and took the one nearer to me.
He looked pleased that I'd made a choice for myself.
I tore off a soft piece and ate it while he poured coffee.
The sea beyond the window was very blue.
I hadn't checked the weather before getting out of bed.
Miles put his cup down and reached for my hand.
