I woke at first light on the Marie Odile with a woman's hair across my mouth.
I lay still and did not move my arm, which had gone dead under her neck an hour ago.
The porthole was gray.
The river made its small sounds against the hull, and Clem breathed slowly on my chest with one bare knee thrown over my thigh.
It was the Saturday after Ash Wednesday, four days since the parade.
