They Hid My Fated Mate, So I Left With the Rival Alpha novel · Chapter 6 of 24

Chapter 6: The Writ

On the third evening the Blood Moon hall ate a hot meal that nobody had burned.

I stood at the kitchen hatch and watched a hundred wolves go back for seconds.

"Marry me," Garth said, with his mouth full of my bread. "I'll leave my Alpha. I'll leave the pack."

"You'd leave the pack for bread?"

"I'd leave the continent."

A big grandmother wolf at the next table caught my eye and tapped her bowl, then pressed her palm to her heart.

I had never been thanked like that in Silver Dawn, not once in five years.

I went pink to my ears.

At the head table, Alpha Ronan did not look at me, and I did not look at him.

We had kept all three rules for two days.

Then the hall doors banged open, and Alpha Brendan walked in.

He wore his traveling coat and the signet ring, and he had twelve Silver Dawn wolves behind him.

My father came last, with his head down.

Every Blood Moon wolf stood at once.

"Alpha Ronan," Brendan said, perfectly civil. "Forgive the hour. I bring a writ from the Council of Alphas."

He held up a sheet of thick cream paper with a red seal.

"Silver Dawn's wolf, Hazel Bramley, has been taken across the river without her pack's leave," he said. "By treaty she belongs to her pack until she is mated, bonded or dead. I'm here to take her home."

"Hazel is a guest at my table," Ronan said.

"A guest can be recalled."

"Not at Blood Moon. A guest stays until the guest says go."

I came out from behind the hatch with a ladle still in my hand.
