I wanted to walk straight down that aisle to him.

I didn't.

The fourteenth wasn't over yet.

Shay got to me first. She grabbed me so hard my portfolio case fell over.

"Pink beanie," she said into my shoulder. "You put me on a giant screen in my pink beanie."

"You were wonderful in it."

"I look like a thumb."

My professor shook my hand, very formally, and then didn't let go of it.

"Four years," she said. "Four years, and you never once showed me the tin."

"I didn't think anyone would want to see it."

"Next time, think again."

The room didn't empty. Nobody wanted to miss the end.

People got up and walked slowly along my wall.

A collector in red glasses stood in front of the groom's mother for a full minute.

A little girl tugged her father over to the picture of Shay asleep, and laughed.

Brody still sat alone in the front row.

A reporter from one of the papers crouched down in front of him with her phone held out.

"Mr. Hollins. Can you tell me who taught you to see?"
