Chapter 7: The Car

Ye-won got into the car because she wanted to see what Ma would say.

The leather was warm and smelled of tea.

Ma Gyeong-su poured a second cup from his thermos and held it out to her.

She didn't take it.

"You're fast," he said. "Four days in, and you're already in his bed."

"I'm his coach."

"And a very good one. His reviews from the read were the best in years." He smiled. "I'd like you to stay longer."

"The contract says three months."

"The contract says three months for the girlfriend. Salt Season opens in five." He set the cup down. "I'd like a second contract, through the release. Another hundred and twenty million won."

Ye-won's heart did something unfamiliar and greedy.

A hundred and twenty million would pay her father's bills twice over.

"What do I do for it?"

"Exactly what you do now. And after the opening night, you go away."

"Away."

"The story needs an end. We'll make it a gentle one. The coach was only a stage in his recovery, and he outgrew her. It will be very sympathetic."

She looked at his hands, folded around the thermos.

They were soft and pink and beautifully kept.
