Chapter 8: Rules

Rhys's POV

The elevator doors closed, and I had her against the mirrored wall before the car began to rise.

"You broke my rule," I said into her throat.

"You kissed me back."

"I know I did."

Her hands were fisted in my shirt. She was shaking, and not from fear.

For two years I had stood across rooms from this woman with my hands in my pockets.

I had learned the distance at which I could look at her and not be seen.

Now her mouth was on my jaw, and I forgot every number.

The suite on twelve was dark. I did not turn on the lights.

I kicked the door shut and lifted her onto the edge of the hall table, and she wrapped her legs around my hips.

"Tell me to stop," I said against her mouth.

"Don't you dare."

I found the zipper at her back and dragged it down.

The green silk fell to her waist. She wore nothing under it but a thin strip of lace.

Her hair hid the chain at her ribs, and I did not see it yet.

I saw her breasts, full and pale in the light from the window.

I put my mouth on one.

She cried out and arched.

I sucked her nipple until it was hard against my tongue, and her fingers dug into my scalp.

"Rhys. God. Please."

"What do you want?"

"Your mouth. Everywhere."

I carried her to the bed and laid her down and pulled the dress off her legs.

She lay there in the dark in her lace, with her chest rising and falling, and watched me undress.

I took off my jacket, my tie, my shirt. I left the left sleeve for last.
