Chapter 12: Birdie Gets It Done

The security chief had a laptop open on the library table before I got through the door.

He was a quiet man with a shaved head, and he looked at me with sympathy, which I didn't want.

"The platform gave us the account's public page," he said. "Nothing private. The account was made nine days ago. It has one post."

He turned the screen.

I knew the post.

It was the fish market clip, fifteen seconds, Max with both fists in the air.

The caption was the one that had gone around the world.

THIS TODDLER IS THE EXACT FACE OF JACK FERRIS???

Above it was the account name.

birdie_gets_it_done.

I stopped breathing.

Preston was beside me.

"Do you know it?"

I did.

Everybody on every film set Bridget had worked on had called her Birdie.

She had signed grocery lists that way.

She signed the notes she left on my coffee mug that way.

"It's a nickname," I heard myself say. "It's probably a coincidence. Lots of people..."

"It follows one account," the security chief said, and scrolled.

A short list.

One name on it.

A blue check next to it, a famous face in a ball cap.

Jack Ferris.

I couldn't look away from the screen.

Nine days.

Nine days ago, the email with my address had gone to Preston's investigators.

Nine days ago, someone made an account and followed one man.
